NOTHING IS SAFE

through the tiny window of the airplane i watched the ground shrink and fall away. i watched as the highways became arteries. main streets became veins and side roads became capillaries. bleeding gold and red bright beautiful headlight/taillight sanguinolency. the airport seemed to be the heart. the moon was full and i was overcome by the unexpected coalescence of shining lunar beauty with my own bitter sadness. i felt a thin almost watery sort of happiness and i promised myself i’d hold on until my knuckles tore through the skin.
