in a dream i saw the sun. i saw through the fire and i saw beyond the light; there was more to the sun than anyone knew. i saw what lie beneath the flames: infrastructure, cities, inhabitants, civilization. there was life on the sun, an entire world whose existence was unknown. sun-dwellers, an entire people of whom we on earth did not have even the slightest idea. they knew as little of us as we did of them. and they knew even less of the universe beyond.

on the sun, there was no daytime, no nighttime, and no sky. the only existence they were aware of was their own; there was nothing else, no solar system, no milky way galaxy, no earth, mars, jupiter, venus, saturn, mercury, neptune, uranus, pluto. no outside universe at all; there was only the sun and nothing else, or so they thought. i am from another place, somewhere far away; i come from beyond the sun, i explained. to them, it was ludicrous, unthinkable: who and what is this cold stranger? how could a thing so cold and dark exist?

with my shadows and cold skin, i was to them a strange and mythical being; a bizarre and impossible existence. their world & its light was all they could fathom; it filled them and shielded them from the rest of the universe so that nothing else existed.

the people of the sun were blinded by the light they lived in,
a total absence of darkness had rendered them ignorant & oblivious.
